I live in a world where Candlebox is way cooler than Blink 182.

I never liked either band, but man, her reaction face is fantastic. (if you put a gun to my head i would take Candlebox in a heartbeat)

[Madonna] said, ‘Okay, I’ll see you guys tomorrow. And you, stay’—or ‘Why don’t you stick around for a little bit?’ It could have been for a cup of coffee, but you know exactly what she was talking about. I said, ‘Look, you know I can’t stay. I’ve got a show at Madison Square Garden tomorrow that I’m nervous as hell about. I’m going to bed.’ If I’d have been single I would’ve been like, ‘Sure,’ but the girl I was dating at the time I was crazy about—and she happened to be Madonna and Freddy [DeMann’s] assistant at [Candlebox’s label, Maverick Records]…. The other assistant who was there was looking at me like, What are you doing? It was very strange. It’s very Italian, like a ‘You don’t tell Tony Soprano no’ sort of thing. What? I do.

Everybody Loves Our Town makes Spin’s Top 10 music books of 2011 list

There’s certainly no shortage of entertainingly thorough books documenting the early ’90s alt-rock boom and What Kurt Hath Wrought. But for exhaustive detail about Seattle’s unlikely, meteoric stint as the center of the universe — from Cat Butt to Candlebox and all points in between — this is hard to beat. As Yarm himself testifies, “It’s got it all: tragedy, comedy, corporate greed, media insanity, Courtney Love, and dudes who wore long johns under their shorts.” [Read the rest here.]

And there’s still time to get it as a holiday gift! North Americans, order ELOT at Amazon, Barnes & Noble or Indiebound. U.K. residents, buy it at Amazon.co.uk or Waterstones.com.

It’s kind of funny because we were probably one of the most Seattle Seattle bands around. Pete, Scotty and myself were all born and raised in Seattle. Kevin moved to Seattle when he was like in 10th grade, and that must have been a good five years before Nirvana formed. We were supposed to have been from L.A. and moved up to Seattle to cash in—that was the kind of shit-talking I’d hear second- or third-hand.

We got a ton of shit for being on Madonna’s label. Everybody thinks that you sleep with her. She had just released her Sex book. It’s like, “Did you fuck her?” We didn’t meet Madonna until a year and half after we signed. No one had sex with her.

Seattle Band Map is a new, crowd-sourced project illustrating the degrees of separation between the city’s bands, past and present, in terms of shared personnel. Right now, a lot of the information is incomplete, and some is just plain wrong (last I checked, Alice in Chains and Candlebox did not share any members), but hopefully the crowd will tidy things up as time goes on. Also, it would be nice if you could easily see exactly which member(s) different bands have in common. Read about the analog origin of this “cartographic study of musical incest”at the Seattle Band Map blog. (via seattlepi.com)

Best thing on the Internet today. [via memecore]

We were just about to demand an apology for overlooking Candlebox, and then, boom, there they are. This is flawless.
