Chris Cornell cancels Made in America fest appearance, citing “scheduling conflict”

He dropped out of Sunday’s show in Philadelphia citing “a scheduling conflict.” (Pearl Jam will still be headlining, but Cornell’s decision dashes hopes for a Temple of the Dog reunion.) It’s unclear whether the cancellation is linked to the Obama campaign rally he’ll be playing in Des Moines the day before.

UPDATE: Cornell tweets, “Woke up to learn some people fucked up. I pulled out of the MIA Festival 2 weeks ago….” and “…I apologize to my fans that you were not told and bought tix. I will find a resolution and get back to u.”

Soundgarden was a band we wanted to get on [Lollapalooza] the year before, but we couldn’t, because they were out of cycle. I was a huge fan of theirs. And then [Lolla cofounder] Don [Muller] said, ‘We gotta put Pearl Jam on.’ I said, ‘It’s the same thing as Soundgarden.’ And he said, ‘No, it’s not. You’re an idiot.’ I didn’t want two Seattle bands on the bill. But Don was a hundred million percent right, and I realized it quickly. I remember going to the first show, and Don’s standing next to me as Pearl Jam’s playing. Eddie’s climbing up on the scaffolding, people are going fucking bananas. Don’s like, ‘In your face, bitch!’
