Hey, it’s another 20th anniversary: Nirvana taped their legendary MTV Unplugged performance 20 years ago today.
Three rare Nirvana interviews have surfaced online. Click the link to listen to the audio from November 1990, where the band discusses the state of alternative music at the time, artists like Vanilla Ice and Public Enemy sampling songs, and their rising success. The band members also open up about their relationships with their fathers, alcoholism and drug use. And as a bonus, Dave Grohl sings Warrant’s “Cherry Pie.”
Nirvana’s final album, In Utero, was recently celebrated in a deluxe 20th anniversary reissue. Original producer Steve Albini revisited the album – with full blessings from bandmembers Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic – for a “2013 Mix.” Audiophiles can get their hands on this remastered reworking in November, when the modern mix is released as a 45 RPM, 180-gram limited edition double vinyl for Record Store Day.
[‘In Utero’] is a haunting record. I am not haunted by it. But there is imagery on there that I would never express to people. I would blow it if I said, ‘This song means that.’ I would rob people of their imaginations. And I would betray Kurt…. We’re each entitled to our own interpretations. But none of them are the definitive one. He’s the only one who can give that—and he’s gone. And he never gave one while he was alive.
