Melvins Lite - Exclusive Live Performance (full set) | Austin, Texas
November 5th, 2012
Thanks to everyone involved with the tour! Thanks for coming to the show, or shows if you did! We feel grateful to be able to still do this after almost 30 years, and we don’t take it for granted. Thanks to SPIN for letting us write the tour diary. It was fun to do. It was funny seeing people getting pissed off at us for shit talking certain rock stars. All of what we said is true! People don’t like the truth. They get defensive and weird when you say Billie Joe is a big baby for throwing a rock star tantrum, or that Rob Zombie is a total dick! It’s fucking true! I’m one of the nicest guys you’ll ever meet! I say it’s true! Oh well, why believe us? We should just tell lies like Bob Dylan does. It’s more interesting than the truth anyway.

Congrats to Melvins Lite, who completed their 51 States in 51 Days tour last night in Hawaii! (Though the tour appears neither to be a Guinness World Record nor entirely unprecedented.)

Sorry Melvins, looks like George Thorogood did complete his 50 states in 50 days tour

According to an investigation by L.A. Weekly/West Coast Sound blogger Jason Roche, it appears that, contrary to the Melvins’ earlier claims, George Thorogood & the Destroyers did complete their 50 states in 50 days tour:

We next reached out to Mike Kappus, president of the San Francisco-based booking agency, who confirms that Thorogood indeed finished it as planned. “I’ve always been very proud of having organized that tour,” Kappus says in an email. “Every date certainly happened as planned.” He adds that Guinness’ criteria does not allow for country-specific records, which is why Thorogood’s tour was never listed in the book.

Oh, well. Melvins Lite are scheduled to complete their now slightly less impressive 51 States in 51 Days tour tomorrow (October 25) in Honolulu. Catch up with their tour diary at Spin.com.
