Rolling Stone Q&A: Thurston Moore on Chelsea Light Moving, Occupy Wall Street and the Future of Sonic Youth

Rolling Stone: Were you surprised by Kim's recent interview in Elle in which talked about your marital problems?
Thurston Moore: I'm not gonna talk about it. There's no aspect of that I will ever talk about.
Rolling Stone: So is Chelsea Light Moving your full-time band now?
Thurston Moore: It is. I think names define things, and I'm gonna keep the name whether I have the same members or not, and I'll keep it as my name for my rock & roll music. If Sonic Youth ever plays again, that will be Sonic Youth, obviously.
Rolling Stone: Is that a possibility at this point?
Thurston Moore: Um, yeah. I would never say I don't see why not. Life changes from time to time and who knows what will happen in the future. Your crystal ball is about as clear as my crystal ball is. Really–seriously. It's not something I think about right now. It's in stasis, for reasons that are obvious.

NYC people-watching at 780 frames per second

jkottke:

Filmed at 780 fps with a Phantom Flex from the back of a moving SUV, James Nares’ Street depicts people walking New York streets in super slow motion.

The film runs 60 minutes (depicting about three minutes of real time footage), Sonic Youth’s Thurston Moore did the soundtrack, and it’s on display at The Met until the end of May.

RollingStone.com: Surreal Kurt Cobain Tribute Staged at Art BaselThe evening’s strangest component was a modern dance interpretation of the “Smells Like Teen Spirit” video by choreographer Ryan Heffington. If not for the flannel shirts and grunge-era haircuts of the dancers, one might have mistaken the performance – with its zombie-like movements and creepy soundtrack – not as a tribute to “Smells Like Teen Spirit” but its greatest-video-of-all-time rival, Michael Jackson’s “Thriller.” (Photo by Kevin Ornelas)
